Why You Should Serve A Tribe First
Most massive successes start by serving a tribe first. Michael Jordan created shoes for the basketball tribe. Facebook created a social network for College Students tribe. Michael Jackson invented pop music.
The initial tribe creates the tide that brings in the other tribes. Now non-basketball players love Jordan’s and it has become a fashion shoe. Not to be worn when playing basketball. The grandparent tribe is now on Facebook. And Michael Jackson has is the greatest selling artist of all time.
The name of the game is to cater to a tribe so that they can create the wave that brings the other tribes in.
The Black Panther Effect
The Black Panther has proven that this same effect applies when creating a product or service that first seeks to serve black audiences.
The Black Panther Effect: By creating an excellent product or service that caters to black audiences, the world will follow next.

As I write these words The Black Panther is on pace to become the highest earning superhero movie of all time. This movie is unapologetically black with a majority black cast, beautiful black warrior women, visions of ancestors, and more.
While a significant amount of its success comes from serving the black tribe, it would not be one of the most successful movies of all time if it was not for the support of all tribes riding the wave created by the initial one.
So it turns out that the same principle of serving a tribe so the world follows applies to black services as well. This is important because many black business owners believe that their blackness is a detriment to their business. And perhaps this did hold true in our grandparent’s era. But it’s not true in 2018 and beyond.
The world is buying black now.
The Punch Line
So don’t be afraid to look black, sound black, talk black, or to offer products and services that cater to black audiences. If your product is excellent. The world will follow. The key is to make a product that is excellent that serves a tribe. Make the wave.
It doesn’t have to be the black tribe. It can be runners, mom’s, or whoever your tribe is. Create an excellent product and serve your tribe well and the rest of the world will follow.
Because we are all one tribe.
How I Live It, and You Can Too 🙅🏿♀️
I help black businesses lay a strong legal foundation and protect their brand identity and original works of art with general business counsel, trademarks, and copyright services.
I also started the Black Acre Facebook Community, A Legal Space for Black Start-Ups to help my tribe with general information on legal and other helpful information when running a business.
Why? Because I understand this tribe because I am a black entrepreneur and startup. Again, it doesn’t matter what tribe you serve as long as you serve them well. If I serve a tribe well then the rest of the world will follow. So I might as well start by first setting out to those that look just like me.
The same is true for you too. Have are you a black woman with a product or service that you know black women will love? Serve them and make sure that they know you made it for them. Package it and fill it up with black excellence.
Are you a chef? Cook the best soul food in town and members of all tribes will come eat.
Now let’s get cooking!🍣🍤🌮🌭🍕🍓🍅🥕🍚🍡🍔🍎🧀🍝🥒🥗
